Emergency Response Plans for water systems should be reviewed and updated: (1) Annually — as a minimum to ensure currency; (2) After any significant incident — to incorporate lessons learned; (3) After infrastructure changes — new equipment, processes, or sources; (4) After regulatory changes; (5) After personnel changes — new contacts, responsibilities. The ERP must include: emergency contacts, notification procedures, response procedures for specific scenarios (power failure, chemical spill, contamination event, natural disaster), backup resources, and communication protocols. Annual review ensures the plan remains current and that staff are familiar with procedures. Tabletop exercises and drills should be conducted annually.
