Program authority: Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class 1B (First Class), Class 2B (Second Class), Class 3B (Third Class), Class 4B (Fourth Class/Very Small Systems); the very-small-system exam is designated Class 4AB.
Verified numeric correspondence is reversed: Montana 3B = ABC/WPI Class I, 2B = Class II, 1B = Class III. Class 4AB maps to ABC Very Small Water System Operators, NOT numeric Class IV. No numeric Class IV treatment route verified.
Water Treatment Operator Exam References explicitly identifies 'ABC’s standardized water treatment operator exams.' The exam-equivalence table maps 1B→III, 2B→II, 3B→I and 4AB→Very Small Water System Operators.
Lists First, Second, Third and Fourth Class; Type B is Water Treatment System Operator. Fourth Class is designated Very Small Systems.

Program authority: Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Municipal: Class 1C (First Class; mechanical secondary/tertiary treatment) and Class 3C (Third Class; aerated/non-aerated lagoons). Industrial: Classes 1D, 2D, 3D, 4D (First–Fourth Class). On-site: Classes 2E, 3E, 4E (Second–Fourth Class). The current municipal application has no Class 2C or 4C option despite the webpage's shorthand '1C–3C'.
Municipal 1C is verified against standardized ABC/WPI Wastewater Treatment Class II. Municipal 3C maps to Small Wastewater System Operator, not a numeric I–IV class. Industrial D mappings are specialized industrial exams, not municipal wastewater shared levels. On-site E exams have a Montana-developed outline; their exact current ABC-customized versus state-authored provenance remains unverified. Mixed does not imply all wastewater grades are standardized.
Wastewater references explicitly identify ABC standardized wastewater-treatment examinations. The table maps 1C→Class II, 3C→Small Wastewater; industrial 1D→Physical/Chemical IV, 2D→Biological III, 3D→Physical/Chemical II, 4D→Biological I; 2E–4E has 'No conversion'.
DEQ links this document specifically for 1C. It states that it describes the 'ABC Standardized Wastewater Treatment Operator Class II exam' and separately warns that ABC also offers customized exams.
Exam/certificate options are 1C and 3C, 1D–4D, and 2E–4E. The municipal Class 2 and 4 positions are unavailable; the application concerns municipal, industrial or on-site wastewater treatment systems.
Describes a 'Montana-specific' wastewater need-to-know framework with earlier ABC-prepared questions; says E-class exam questions, outlines and study guides were developed in 2011. Specifies three unique study guides for 2E, 3E and 4E and Montana regulatory references.

Program authority: Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), Water and Wastewater Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class 1A (First Class), Class 2A (Second Class), Class 3A (Third Class), Class 4A (Fourth Class/Very Small Systems); the very-small-system exam is designated Class 4AB.
Montana 3A = ABC/WPI Class I, 2A = Class II, 1A = Class III. Do not confuse Montana's descending classification numbers with WPI's ascending classes. Class 4AB is a separate Very Small Water System examination, not numeric Class IV.
Identifies 'ABC’s standardized water distribution operator examinations'; maps 1A→III, 2A→II, 3A→I and 4AB→Very Small Water System Operators.
'Montana uses ABC ... standardized exams for testing'; specifically maps Montana Class 1A to ABC Distribution Class III. The enclosed outline distinguishes standardized from customized ABC exams.
Type A is Water Distribution System Operator; Classes 1–4 are named First through Fourth Class, with Fourth Class designated Very Small Systems.
Exam route under review
Program authority: Separate collection certifying authority unverified; Montana DEQ administers the state water/wastewater operator program
Local levels: No separate wastewater-collection certificate grades or examination verified.
DEQ's listed certificate categories and wastewater application provide treatment, industrial and on-site credentials, not a separate collection credential. This is not affirmative proof that no voluntary collection program exists, so retain unverified rather than not-offered. Do not route collection to municipal treatment Class 1C/3C or infer standardized collection exams from drinking-water evidence.
No state-matched course is linked for this stream yet.
The certificate-category list contains A distribution, B water treatment, C wastewater, D industrial treatment and E on-site wastewater; it identifies no separate wastewater-collection category or exam.
Directs classification of 'water treatment plants, water distribution systems, and wastewater treatment plants'; does not establish a separate wastewater-collection classification.
Dedicated prep is not available or being sold yet.
