Program authority: Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators; administered with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class A (>5 MGD), Class B (>1 to 5 MGD), Class C (>100,000 gpd to 1 MGD), Class D (≤100,000 gpd); special small-system Class Dc (disinfected groundwater) and Class Dn (no disinfection/treatment). A–D use applicable Subclassifications 1–15, including Laboratory Supervisor (15).
DEP prepares Pennsylvania examinations and the Board administers them. A–D require a General Part I exam plus applicable technology-specific Part II exams; size-class upgrades do not require another examination. Dc/Dn use separate standalone exams and have restricted eligibility. These are not verified WPI standardized or customized ABC exams, and A–D cannot be mapped to WPI Classes I–IV.

§302.601(a): 'The Department will prepare and the Board will administer' certification examinations. §302.601(b): Part I covers water or wastewater systems 'regardless of size'; Part II covers technologies or components.
Lists Water Classes A, B, C, D, E, Dc and Dn; the Board awards certification class based on experience. Dc requires small size, exclusively groundwater, only disinfection and regulatory compliance; Dn has no disinfection.
A–D require General and technology-specific exams; Dc/Dn are standalone. 'Operators do not need to take exams to upgrade the class certificate (size of plant A, B, C, D).'

Program authority: Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators; administered with Pennsylvania DEP, Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class A (>5 MGD), Class B (>1 to 5 MGD), Class C (>100,000 gpd to 1 MGD), Class D (≤100,000 gpd). Subclassification 1 - Activated Sludge; 2 - Fixed film treatment; 3 - Treatment ponds and lagoons; 4 - Single entity collection system; 5 - Laboratory Supervisor.
A–D require the Pennsylvania wastewater General Part I exam plus applicable Part II technology/component exams. Classes reflect system size and operator experience, not separate ascending standardized exam grades. Laboratory Supervisor is an additional subclass requiring existing A–D wastewater certification. No WPI standardized or customized ABC scope is established.
No state-matched course is linked for this stream yet.
§302.601(a) makes DEP the examination preparer; (b) expressly covers wastewater General and technology/component examinations; (d) specifies a wastewater laboratory-supervisor Part II exam.
Lists Wastewater Classes A–D and Subclassifications 1–5, including the requirement for existing A–D treatment certification before adding Laboratory Supervisor.
Wastewater A–D combine with subclasses 1–5 and require General plus technology-specific examinations; upgrading plant-size class A–D does not require another exam.

Program authority: Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators; administered with Pennsylvania DEP, Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class E - Distribution and Consecutive Water Systems; may combine with Subclassifications 7–14 for applicable treatment technologies. No four-level distribution ladder is listed.
Pennsylvania Class E has a standalone General exam. Treatment in a distribution/consecutive system can require additional applicable technology subclasses. Official regulations expressly cover distribution examinations; this finding is not inferred from treatment-only evidence. No WPI standardized-class correspondence is established.
No state-matched course is linked for this stream yet.
§302.601(a) assigns preparation to DEP; §302.601(c) expressly requires separate standalone exams for 'water distribution or consecutive systems without treatment'.
Water 'Class E – Distribution and Consecutive Water Systems'.
Drinking Water Class E is standalone; 'Class E General Exam can be combined with Technology subclasses 7-14'.

Program authority: Pennsylvania State Board for Certification of Water and Wastewater Systems Operators; administered with Pennsylvania DEP, Operator Certification Program
Local levels: Class E - Satellite collection system with a pump station, combined with wastewater Subclassification 4 (E4). Subclassification 4 - Single entity collection system, also available with wastewater Classes A–D. No collection Classes I–IV are listed.
The regulations expressly provide a Pennsylvania standalone collection examination for satellite or single-entity collection systems. The current schedule identifies Class E with subclass 4 only and permits its exam alongside wastewater A–D exams. Do not generalize Class E eligibility to every sewer network or replace it with four WPI grades.

§302.601(a) assigns examination preparation to DEP; (c) expressly provides standalone exams for 'wastewater collection systems, either satellite or single entity'.
Wastewater Class E is a 'Satellite collection system with a pump station' combined with subclass 4; subclass 4 defines single-entity collection systems.
Wastewater Class E: 'subclass 4 ONLY', standalone examination, which 'can be taken with Wastewater A, B, C, or D'.
