Texas operator exam preparation

Source check: 2026-10-04. Shared WPI courses are linked only where the standardized exam and class match are confirmed. Local grades may not equal WPI class numbers. Your authority's current documents control.

Water Treatment

Exam route under review

Program authority: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Occupational Licensing

Local levels: Class D Water; Class C Groundwater Operator; Class C Surface Water Operator; Class B Groundwater Operator; Class B Surface Water Operator; Class A Water Operator. Also Provisional Water Class D.

Mandatory licensing for public-water-system process-control duties, unless exempt. Classes C and B have separate groundwater and surface-water tracks; Class A is comprehensive. Official sources establish TCEQ licensing, local exam criteria and agency exam revision, but do not explicitly identify standardized WPI/ABC adoption, customized ABC provenance, or a local-to-WPI class correspondence. Exam-bank identity therefore remains unverified, not evidence of nonparticipation.

Wastewater Treatment

Exam route under review

Program authority: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Occupational Licensing

Local levels: Wastewater Class D; Wastewater Class C; Wastewater Class B; Wastewater Class A. Also Provisional Wastewater Class D.

Treatment licensing is a regulated program: the required chief-operator class depends on facility category. The official treatment exam outlines are explicitly Texas-focused, but they do not establish whether the underlying bank is state-authored or customized ABC, nor standardized WPI/ABC adoption or class equivalence. Do not infer wastewater exam identity from drinking-water evidence.

Water Distribution

Exam route under review

Program authority: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Occupational Licensing

Local levels: Class C Water Distribution; Class B Water Distribution. Common water-system licenses: Class D Water and Class A Water Operator; also Provisional Water Class D. No separately named Distribution Class A or D in the opened criteria.

Distribution is within mandatory public-water-system licensing, unless exempt; the B/C distribution exams are distinct local specialties. Class D is foundational across water operations and Class A combines all three B specialties. No explicit standardized WPI/ABC scope or class mapping was established; local lettering must not be converted automatically to WPI Classes 1–4.

Wastewater Collection

Exam route under review

Program authority: Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), Occupational Licensing

Local levels: Collection Class I; Collection Class II; Collection Class III.

Separate collection licenses are offered; no Class IV is listed. Direct supervisors of domestic collection operation/maintenance crews must hold either a wastewater collection license or a wastewater treatment license, with the required supervisory level satisfied. This is not simply voluntary certification. Roman numerals I–III do not prove correspondence to standardized WPI Classes 1–3; explicit exam provenance and mapping remain unverified.

Dedicated course research

Dedicated prep is not available or being sold yet.

  • Texas water-treatment alignment: maintain separate Class C/B Groundwater and Surface Water outlines, a foundational Class D outline and comprehensive Class A outline; include the cited 30 TAC Chapter 30 Subchapters A/K and Chapter 290 Subchapters D/F. Do not label these WPI-equivalent courses without further evidence.
  • Texas water-distribution alignment: dedicated Class C and B distribution outlines, preserving their cumulative Class D/C prerequisites; include Texas regulatory requirements, storage/distribution maintenance, cross-connection control, disinfection and distribution calculations.
  • Texas water-training prerequisite information: TCEQ requires resiliency training for all water operators beginning April 1, 2024. Keep this approval/prerequisite requirement separate from any claim about exam-question content or Echelon course approval.
  • Texas wastewater-treatment alignment: separate D/C/B/A outlines covering TCEQ permitting/self-reporting, Chapter 217 design criteria, facility/operator categorization and class-specific treatment/process-control knowledge; preserve Class A's expressly listed 75-90 Rule topic.
  • Texas wastewater-collection alignment: separate I/II/III outlines covering collection-specific operations, pumping, traffic safety, Chapter 217, system staffing/categorization and progressively advanced inspection, maintenance and design topics; do not invent a Texas Collection Class IV.

What still needs confirmation

  • Requested cutoff: October 3, 2026. Live official sources were accessed October 4, 2026; the displayed licensing/exam pages have pre-cutoff 2026 modification dates. An archived October 3 snapshot was not acquired.
  • Eight official source URLs were opened, meeting the exploration cap; evidence comes from opened pages, not search snippets.
  • No opened official source explicitly confirmed standardized WPI/ABC use or local-grade-to-WPI-class correspondence for any stream. All verifiedSharedLevels are therefore empty. Unverified does not mean unsupported or not offered.
  • Texas-specific need-to-know outlines and TCEQ exam revision support local preparation needs, but do not conclusively distinguish a state-authored bank from customized ABC exams. CBT administration alone is not evidence of standardized exam adoption.
  • Official pages contain delivery-list inconsistencies: the water/wastewater licensing pages describe Class A CBT exams, while the general CBT list omits Class A; collection II/III licensing sections retain regional-office links although the current exam page says all TCEQ occupational exams use approved CBT centers. These do not establish exam provenance.
